Daily Devotional - Easter Sunday
Read: Matthew 28:1-15
He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed, Alleluia!
The Resurrection of Jesus should really not surprise us. Jesus has been saying in the Gospel lessons that He was going to do so. However, it really should surprise us because nothing like this has ever happened in history. Of course, Jesus was able to raise other people from the dead. But it is an entirely different thing to raise oneself from the dead. There are aspects of this reading that make the action of the story very interesting. The uses of the words: “behold,” and “quickly” make the action move faster.
But an aspect of the Easter account that may not be as obvious to us is one simple detail. It is so easily missed because it cannot be found in the English translation. Verse 7: “Tell His disciples that he has risen from the dead.” In Greek, the verb “risen” is in the passive voice. So instead of “has risen,” it should read: “Was risen from the dead.” Just like Jesus raised other people from the dead, God the Father raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ was risen from the dead by His Father, by our Father. All three persons of the Trinity are involved in the life of Jesus. The next major Church Festival is Pentecost - when Jesus sends the Holy Spirit upon His disciples.
Verse 9 tells us so much: “And behold! Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.” Finally, the disciples had no questions for this Jesus who was raised from the dead. They do what Jesus predicted, that they would bow down and worship Him. Jesus has manifested His Triune Majesty.
How will you worship Him today? Will you worship like disciples, without any further questions about your station in life or current situation? Will you worship by praying to Him as the LORD, and Savior of your life? Or will you worship Him by listening to the command of Jesus: “Do not be afraid, go and tell my brothers and sisters.”

Ha resucitado! Ha resucitado sí! Aleluya!
En realidad, la resurrección de Jesús no nos debe sorprender. Jesús decía en las lecciones del Evangelio que iba a resucitar. Sin embargo, sí nos la debe sorprender porque nunca ha pasado antes por el curso de la historia. Por supuesto, Jesus podía resucitar a otras personas de los muertos. Pero es algo distinto resucitarse a sí mismo. Hay aspectos de esta lectura que hace que la acción sea muy interesante. Las palabras usados: “he aquí” y “a toda prisa” hace que la acción mueva más rápidamente.
Pero, hay un aspecto de la lectura de Pascua que quizás no sea tan obvio. Está perdido fácilmente porque no se puede encontrarlo en la traducción de español. Versículo 7: “Decid a Sus discípulos que ha resucitado.” En griego, el verbo “resucitar” está en la voz pasiva. Así en vez de “ha resucitado” debe ser: “fue resucitado de los muertos”. Así como resucitó a otras personas de los muertos, Dios el Padre resucitó a Jesús de los muertos. Jesucristo fue resucitado de los muertos de Su Padre, de nuestro Padre. Todas tres personas de la Trinidad están involucrados en la vida de Jesús. El próximo festival de la iglesia es Pentecostés - cuando Jesús mandó al Espíritu Santo sobre Sus discípulos.
Versículo 9 nos dice mucho: “Y he aquí, Jesús les salió al encuentro, diciendo: ‘Os saludo!’ Y acercándose ellas, abrazaron sus pies y le adoraron.” Finalmente, los discípulos no tenían preguntas para Jesús, el que fue resucitado de los muertos. Hacen como predecía Jesús, que se arrodillaran y le alabaran. Jesús manifestó Su Majestad de la Trinidad.
Cómo Le alabarás hoy? Alabarás como los discípulos, sin más preguntas sobre tu situación de la vida? Alabarás por orarle como el SEÑOR y Salvador de tu vida? O Le alabarás por escuchar al mandato de Jesús: “No temáis, id, dad las nuevas a mis hermanos y hermanas.”
