Daily Devotion
Read: 1 Peter 4
Peter is very direct in this chapter. He speaks openly and plainly about what it means to suffer as a Christian. His words can be sobering and encouraging, all at the same time. He says: “the end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.” Does Peter mean that this virus is the end of the world? No. Because Peter is talking about sufferings of a Christian, by this phrase, he means the end of the world without Christ. From now on, Christ will always be with us because He has ascended in heaven to be with the Father.
He continues: “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins, show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” We have discussed in previous devotions how we can love one another during such a crisis. Another way to show love is to serve others by the strength that God supplies. In other words, talk to other people about their faith today. During tough times, people are more likely to open up about their faith and spirituality. God continues to give us opportunities to talk about Him and His Gospel.
I love the last line of this chapter: “Therefore, let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.” What else can be said? Peter does not describe a way for us to comprehend what God is doing. He simply tells us to do good and trust that God will work everything out in the end. He also tells us to rejoice in Christ today, because we share in Christ’s sufferings. Why then, should we be surprised at fiery trials before us? We should not at all. Jesus has us in His loving arms - forever.
Please pray: Dear Jesus: We know that our sufferings on earth are temporary. Continue to keep our eyes fixed on you. Create in us clean hearts O LORD, that trust You and rejoice in whatever circumstance in which we find ourselves. Give us opportunities to share Your love with others that we encounter. Thank you for all of your gifts that you renew for us each and everyday. Amen.

Pedro está muy directo en este capítulo. Habla francamente y claramente sobre lo que significa para sufrir como Cristiano. Sus palabras pueden volvernos más serio y animarnos a la vez. Dice: “En fin de todas las cosas se ha acercado. Sed, pues, prudentes y sobrios en la oración.” Significa Pedro que este virus es el fin del mundo? No. Pedro habla sobre los sufrimientos de ser Cristiano, y por eso significa que es el fin del mundo sin Cristo. Ahora, Cristo siempre estará con nosotros porque ascendió a los cielos para estar con el Padre.
Continúa: “Sobre todo, tened entre vosotros un ferviente amor, porque el amor cubre una multitud de pecados. Hospedaos los unos a los otros sin murmuraciones.” Hemos discutido en devociones anteriores como se puede amar a uno al otro durante este crisis. Otra mana para demostrar el amor es servir a los demás que conforme al poder que Dios le da. En otras palabras, habla a tu prójimo de su fe hoy. Durante los tiempos duros, la gente tiene más tendencia de abrirse sobre la fe y la espiritualidad. Dios sigue de darnos las oportunidades de hablar de Él y de Su Evangelio.
Me encanta el último versículo: “Por eso, los que sufren según la voluntad de Dios, que encomienden sus almas al fiel Creador, haciendo el bien.” Qué más se puede decir? Pedro no describe una manera para que comprendamos lo que Dios hace. Sólo nos dice que hagamos el bien y confíe en Dios que Él trabaje todo para el bien. También nos dice que gocemos en Cristo hoy porque compartimos en sus sufrimientos. Porque entonces nos sorprendemos por el fuego que arde entre nosotros para ponernos a prueba? No hay caso. Jesús nos tiene en sus manos amadas.
Favor de orar: Querido Jesús: Sabemos que nuestro sufrimientos de la tierra son temporarios. Sigue de guardar nuestros ojos enfocaos en Ti. Crea en nosotros un corazón recto, O SEÑOR, que confíe en Ti y goce en todas la circunstancias en las cuales nos encontramos. Danos la oportunidades para compartir Tu amor con nuestros prójimos con cuales nos encontramos. Gracias por todos Tus dones que renueves en nosotros todos los días. Amén.
