Read: 1 Peter 5
Apparently, at the time that Peter was writing this epistle, there were some disagreements between the elders to whom he was writing. Even though we are not elders of a church, these encouragements are still good for all Christians. It is good for us to watch after each other, even more so during this time when everything seems to be up in the air.
Peter uses the same verb multiple times in this chapter: “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore.” Being humble is a quality that is rare in America today, but, especially towards the end of the Bible, it comes up more often. Why is humility so important for a Christian? Not only so that Christ will exalt us, but it gives us an opportunity to confess who is actually in charge - God, not us.
It is for that reason that Peter’s most widely known phrase in 1 Peter comes next: “Cast all your anxieties on him, because He cares for you.” Yes, Peter is talking about all of our everyday, mundane anxieties that always seem to work out no matter how much time we waste on them. However, Peter is also talking about the anxieties we have when we confront big problems in our lives. We, as Christians, are supposed to expect God to take control of all of them. People should be able to tell by our actions that we are humble enough to trust in God’s provision for all of our daily needs. When we fail to show others this faith, we simply are humble, go to God and ask for His forgiveness. He is always there for us, no matter what.
Please pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing us to cast our anxieties on You. Even though we fail to always trust You, we know that You will always be there to pick us back up. We know that the devil prowls around like a lion waiting for us. So we pray to You that You deliver us from all forms of evil: fear, anxiety, and sin. Thank you for giving us Jesus to cling to so that we can be restored, strengthened and established in You. Amen.

Al parecer, al tiempo que Pedro escribió esta epístola, hubo desacuerdos entre los ancianos a quienes escribía. Aunque no somos ancianos de una iglesia, estos alientos también son buenos para todos los Cristianos. Es bueno para nosotros que vigilemos uno al otro, aun más durante este tiempo cuando todo es incierto.
Pedro utiliza el mismo verbo múltiples veces en este capítulo: “revestíos todos de humildad unos para con otros, porque Dios resiste a los soberbios pero da gracia a los humildes. Humillaos, pues.” Ser humilde es una calidad que es raro en América hoy, pero especialmente a los finales de la Biblia, se repite mucho. Porque es la humildad tan importante para ser Cristiano? No sólo para que Dios os exalte, pero nos da una oportunidad para confesar a quien está en cargo de todo - Dios, no nosotros.
Es por esta razón que la phrase más famosa de Pedro viene después: “echad sobre él toda vuestra ansiedad, porque él tiene cuidado de vosotros.” Si Pedro habla de toda de nuestras ansiedades triviales y cotidianas que siempre nos parece completarse, aunque gastamos nuestro tiempo en ellas. Sin embargo, Pedro también habla de las ansiedades que tenemos cuando confrontamos los problemas grandes en nuestras vidas. Nosotros, como Cristianos, debemos esperar que Dios tome control de todas. La gente debe averiguar por nuestras acciones que somos humildes para confiar en la provisión de Dios por todas nuestras necesidades cotidianas. Cuando nos falta de demostrar esta fe a los demás, simplemente seamos humildes, regresemos a Dios otra vez para pedir el perdón. Él siempre está para nosotros, pase lo que pase.
Favor de orar: Querido Padre Celestial, gracias por dejarnos echar nuestras ansiedades en Ti.
Aunque nos falta confiar en Ti, sabemos que siempre estarás para alzarnos otra vez. Sabemos que el diablo, como león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando a quién devorar. Así oramos a Ti, que Tú nos liberes de todas formas de mal: el temor, la ansiedad, y el pecado. Gracias por darnos Jesús para pegarnos, para que estemos recobrados, fortalecidos, y establecidos en Ti. Amén.
